Faculty of Medicine, Medical University in Plovdiv (General medicine)


Medical university was founded in 1945. There are 4 schools at University: School of medicine, School of Dentistry, School of Pharmacy and School of Healthcare. In addition to it there are Department of Foreign languages, Medical College and St. George Academic Hospital. In total, there are around 3800 students both in Bulgarian and English language. The University employs more than 130 professors and around 600 deputy and assistant professors.

Diploma from Medical University in Plovdiv is recognised in European union and most countries of the world. Medicine programme has GMC accreditation (there is no PLAB test needed), dentistry programme has GDC accreditation (there is no ORE test needed).


University is located in Plovdiv, second biggest city of Bulgaria, relatively close to Bulgarias capital – Sofia. University in Plovdiv does not provide scholarships to students.

University is not providing accomodation for its students, so students must find private rent on their terms.

Study programmes
General medicine:

Programme is taught at Faculty of medicine and teaching starts in October. Duration of programme of General medicine is 6 years (12 semesters) and is taught in English. Cost for General medicine programme is 8000€ per year.

It involves training in preclinical and clinical disciplines, as well as a one-year clinical rotation. The basic and special medical disciplines are studied in their logical consequence and interrelation.

First 4 semesters are focused mainly on pre-clinical study and theory, next 6 semesters focus on clinical study and final 2 semesters are spent in praxis (internship year). Furthermore, students are encouraged to take summer practical internships in their 2nd, 3rd and 4th year of their studies.

Graduates are awarded with Masters Degree and title of MD (Medical Doctor) after taking state examination, which is recognised in European union and most countries of the world.

There is no entrance examination at Medical University in Plovdiv. After every student submits documents, management of University choose the most perspective and motivated students whom place at University will be offered.

Secondary school certificate and academic transcripts of records from the grades received (applicant must score at least 62% from the 100% of points, which can be gained maximally)

Certificate from the official body in home country of applicant that will certify, that applicant can study at higher educational institution in home country

Health care certificates – document must be maximally 1 month old prior to application
