Faculty of Dentistry, University of Debrecen (Dental medicine)


The University of Debrecen is the second largest university in Hungary and is situated in Central Europe. Its history tracks back to 1538 when the Reformed College of Debrecen was established. The programmes for international students have been established in 1987 and all of them are delivered in English.
Currently, there are about 30,000 students in total from which around 11% are international students. They come from all over the world, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and North America included. The teaching staff of more than 1,700 provides quality education in 15 faculties and 20 doctoral schools, offering the widest choice of majors in the country.


Faculty of dentisty is one of 15 faculties of University of Debrecen.

Degree from Medical and health center of University of Debrecen is internationally recognised in European Union. If you want to work in USA, you need to take USMLE examination. Debrecen Faculty of medicine organises preparatory course for USMLE (Kaplan USMLE Step 1 Preparatory course) with tuition fee of 4400USD and 7 weeks of live preparation for this course.

Accomodation for students:

There are 2 possibilities for foreign students, who will study at University of Debrecen – cheaper dormitories and little bit more expensive private flats.
Students might choose between Auguszta Hotel and Student hostel with one-, two- and three-rooms appartment or OEC West Hostel located in the area of the Clinics with 56 single rooms and 24 double rooms.

Study programmes
Dental medicine:

Programme of dental medicine takes 5 years (10 semesters). During the 1st year a thorough understanding of the basic medical sciences such as Biophysics, Biochemistry and Genetics is gained and in the second year the program broadens to encompass Anatomy, Histology, Physiology and Behavioral Sciences in topics which are relevant to the practice of Dentistry. Even in the first and second years, special dental subjects (Odontology, Preventive Dentistry, Dental Materials and Technics) are taught.
Students who pass all examination and submit a thesis and take a final examination are granted D.M.D degree (Dental Medicine Doctor).
Tuition fee for one year of studying is 16 000 USD (when paid in one installment). If tuition fee is paid in two installments, tuition fee is 17 000 USD.

Accommodation: from 70 000 HUF
1 kg loaf of bread: 250-300 HUF
1 l of milk: 180-300 HUF

Monthly pass for students: 3 500 HUF
Ticket (bus, tram): 300 HUF (400 HUF if you buy it from the driver)
Cinema ticket: approx. 1300-1700 HUF

Total costs of stay for one studying year:

Fee for dental medicine is 16000 USD. In addition to that, from 3rd year of studying, there is special fee of 2 200 USD for materials used.
Application fee for all programmes is 150 USD.
Entrance examination fee is 350 USD.
