Faculty of Medicine, Hradec Kralove, Charles University (Dentistry program)


Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové is part of Charles University, which has 5 faculties of Medicine in total. It was established on 25th of November 1945 as the first faculty in East Bohemia. There are three pillars of faculty – education, science and research and foreign relations. There were more 10 000 graduates of Faculty since its establishment. Faculty has more than 1900 students in Bachelor, Magister and Doctoral study programmes.
Faculty of medicine in Hradec Králohe is involved in international cooperation. Besides study staying abroad for up to 2 semesters, students are encouraged to take part in internships offered by international institution IFMSA. Furthermore, Faculty of Medicine has great cooperation with MAYO clinic in Rochester, USA, where students go for their practicals.
Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové is one of the best research and educational institution for studying medicine in Czech Republic. There is a great ratio between teachers and students: there are only 3 students assigned to one teacher. Therefore one third of students in Hradec Králové are foreigners.

Recognition in EU and rest of countries :

Degree is automatically recognised in EU and in most country of the world. For more information about specific country, there is a need to consult it with governmental body of concrete state. Absolvents of Charles university are among those, who are able to get regular job quite easily and fastly after their gradutation. There is almost 99% chance, that graduate will receive good paying job – especially with degree from General Medicine or Dental medicine.

Accomodation for students:

Students may go for two types of accomodation – private and public one. Public is represented by dormitory for students (Hostel Palachova or Hostel Na Kotli) and is arranged through the students office). In case of private accomodation, there are plenty of options, such as Hotel Allesandria and others.

Study programmes
Dental medicine:

Programme of Dental medicine takes 5 years and graduates are awarded with degree of MDDr. (Medicinae Dentium Doctor). Cost for Dental medicine program is 340.000 CZK.
Since the very beginning, the curriculum is focused on dental subjects and separated from the instruction of General Medicine. The great attention is paid to the practical trainings in preclinical classrooms during initial study years, and in true dental offices in following years. The study programme is finished by the state rigorous examination.
The graduating dentist has the knowledge of basic biological, medical and behavioural aspects of recent oral health care, knowledge of aetiology, pathogenesis, demographic distribution, prevention and treatment of oral diseases. Adequate knowledge of dental materials and be familiar with pharmacodynamics of the drugs, knowledge of legislation of private dental practice. Ability to adequate examination of the patient, exact diagnosis assessment of oral and dental diseases, treatment plan setup. Realization of adequate prevention and treatment of dental and periodontal diseases. Knowledge of principles of effective communication with the patient, empathy, ability to different approach to the different age groups of patients, human rights authority based on ethical codex.

There are 25 students accepted each year for programme of Dental medicine.

Cost for programme of Dental medicine 340.000 Kč per one academic year.

Admission criterias
Admission criterias:

There are two options how to became student of Faculty of medicine in Hradec Kralove of Charles University.
Fistly, applicants may be accepted automatically (without need to take an entrance examination).
A-levels students: students who took A-levels tests from all of biology, chemistry and physics or mathematics and scored A mark (max. B) will be accepted automatically. Holders of As levels (only EU and EFTA students) may be admitted conditionally in case, that they will submit documents and pay at least half of tuition fees.
Students with IB diploma: Students with IB diploma need to take pass these subjects: biology, chemistry and physics or mathematics. They need to have scores of 7, 7, 5 or 7, 6, 6.
Students who took SAT tests: applicant who took SAT tests need to take Molecular biology, chemistry and physics or mathematics at level 2. There is need to get at least 2100 points.
Second option is, that applicant must take an entrance examination.
Entrance examination exercises basic knowledge of applicant in 3 subjects: chemistry (25 questions), biology (25 questions) and physics or mathematics (10 questions). There is 150 minutes for writing entrance examination. Best applicants will be selected for oral examination, in which personality and motivation of applicant will be interviewed. Tables are not allowed, calculators are allowed.
