Faculty of Medicine, Medical University of Bialystok (General Medicine)


Medical University of Bialystok has 96 professors, 95 doctors and 750 academic teachers. There are 14 faculties and departments at University and 4439 students in total. University is very active in international relations: there are more then 20 bilateral scientific agreements signed and scientific exchanges. The University implements the idea of European Expert Seminars directed at the entire academic community with special attention devoted to the role of the visiting professors, who are prominent specialists with remarkable scientific achievements.


The Faculty of Medicine is the longest history in the Medical University in Białystok. It was established on 03rd of February 1950 under Regulation of the Council of Ministers. In 1969 there is creation of Division of Dentistry dated. Afterwards in the consecutive years new courses of medical education were introduced regularly. In 1999 the Division of Nursing was set up at the Faculty of Medicine, which subsequently became an independent unit of the University under the name of the Faculty of Nursing and Health Care.
The 6-year medical training program in English was founded in 2004, program of Dentistry exists from 2009/2010.

The Faculty cooperates with The Teaching Hospital of the Medical University of Bialystok. This hospital is the largest health care setting in the north-eastern region, since it has 800 beds, it is capable of providing medical care for 24 000 in-patients yearly. Furthermore, students are educated at The Children’s Teaching Hospital which is the second biggest hospital in the city. More than 10 000 sick children are hospitalized here yearly.

Degree from Medical University is internationally recognised in European union. In case you would like to work in USA, you need to pass USMLE examination.


Bialystok is city in northeastern Poland and the capital of the Podlaskie Voivodeship. City was founded in 14th century. It is city of students, since there are 3 universities located there: University of Bialystok, Białystok Technical University and Medical University of Białystok. City has around 300 000 inhabitants.

Scholarships offered:

US students: Students accepted for admission to Medical University of Bialystok and those who are enrolled at least half time and maintaining standards of satisfactory academic progress may apply for U.S. Federal Direct Loans to meet direct and indirect educational expenses. The maximum loan amount for which a student is eligible may not exceed the cost of attendance for the academic period in which the student is enrolled, as defined by MUB. Accomodation for students:

Yes, University offers accommodation to English students. English Division Students are offered rooms at the Dormitory Nr 2 located at ul. Waszyngtona 23, 15-304 Białystok (within 10-15 minutes walking distance from Basic Sciences Departments and less than 5-10 minutes from Clinical Departments).

Study programmes
General medicine:

Program of general medicine is offered to foreign students. It takes 6 years and is taught in English. Tuition fee for program of General medicine for 1st year is 9500€ and 2nd to 6th study years is 9000€ per study year.

Program of General medicine is taught at The Campus, which consists of hospitals, administrative offices, dormitories, library, cafeteria, and athletic facilities.

Study programmes:

University provides 6-year program of General medicine and 5-years program of Dental medicine for international students. University does not offer 4-years program of General medicine any longer.

Tuition fees:

Tuition fees are 9500€ for 1st year and 9000€ for 2nd-6th study year for students of General medicine.

Total costs of stay for one studying year:

There is an obligatory precourse needed to be taken in September and goes for 3 weeks with cost of 450€, student index costs 21 PLN. Cost of dormitories are between 740 – 1250 PLN.

Admission criterias
Admission criterias:

6-years program of General medicine is open to students, who are holders of School Leaving certificate (there must be at least 2 positive grades from following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics) and simultaneosly, applicant must pass at least 2 from following subjects: Chemistry / Biology, Physics / Mathematics.
There is an internal evaluation system performed by University taking many factors into consideration. Subsequently, there is an interview made with applicant from which points from English proficiency and presentation skills will be calculated.
Admission process consists from 2 parts.
PART 1 is based on country of applicant, points for achieved grades from secondary school are awarded. Two grades out of the following four subjects are required and taken for evaluation: Chemistry (obligatory) and Biology, Physics or Mathematics. One of required subjects has to be taught at least 4 semesters in high school or at the advanced level. Applicant must reach at least 130 points to be accepted.
PART 2 is based on the number of points achieved during interview. In this case, students may score following points: a) English language proficiency, motivation and predisposition of the candidate for medical studies and the medical profession – a maximum of 50 points.
b) presentation skills, in English language , of the knowledge of selected science subjects – a maximum of 50 points.

Entrance examination
Documents needed for an entrance examination:

Every document must be submitted within online system of University.

1. Completed application form
2. School leaving certificate / High School Diploma – following subjects are required on school leaving certificate: Chemistry(obligatory) and one of the following: Physics, Biology or Mathematics. One of two required subjects has to be taught at least 4 semesters in high school or at advanced level. One subject has to be taught at least two semesters in high school.
3. Eligibility statement (only in case that country is not member of EU, OECD or EFTA).
4. Health certificate
5. Photocopy of applicants passport
6. Photocopy of the insurance card
7. 1 color passport photographs

Documents needed for an enrollment:

In case that applicant will be accepted, student must submit originals or verified copies of documents in person. Documents sent by email or by mail will not be considered. In case that documents are not in English, official translation must be provided.

Transfers of students

Transfers from another University is possible in case of Medical University of Bialystok.
On the other hand, there are only given number of places offered to transfer students. Student must complete all required courses and credits for given year of previous school
All documents must be submitted during 1st of July and 1st of September of given year. Student must submit originals or verified copies of following documents:
1. Application form.
2. Cover letter explaining reasons for a transfer.
3. Official transcripts of grades from the University that the candidate is transferring from (name of course, number of teaching hours, ECTS credits, type of completion, marks obtained).
4. The syllabuses containing learning outcomes.
5. Documentation certifying a mark system used by the sending school.
6. High school diploma.
