Pomerian Medical University (Pomorski Uniwersytet Medyczny) – Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin, established in 1948, is a public (State-owned) medical university. PMU offers studies in 12 different fields on 4 Faculties available: Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medical Biotechnology and Laboratory Medicine. PMU offers studies on all three levels: first cycle (bachelor), second cycle (master), third cycle (PhD), and long cycle (master; applies to medical and dental studies only).


Faculty of Medicine was opened to international students in 1996.

Szczecin is the historical capital of Western Pomerania, and lies on the bank of the Odra River and the southern end of the Bay of Szczecin. Szczecin is definitely a student city, since there are several universities in the city: Technical University, Agricultural University, Maritime University and University of Szczecin. City had really turbulent history and was almost demolished during the second world war. Visitors should not miss the Castle of Pomeranian Dukes and the block of buildings situated on the slope along the Odra River, called “Wały Chrobrego”, the gothic City Hall from 14th century and beautiful churches. Along with a number of historical places, there are a lot of theatres, Philharmonic hall, museums, galleries, libraries and other cultural places in the city.

Accomodation for students:

University offers accomodation to students at dormitories. Students need to contact Dormitories staff directly in ordet to find possibility of free places. Students can also arrange their own accommodation in city – in that case, price varies between 900-1500 PLN.

Study programmes
General medicine:

6-years program of General medicine – there are 5 years during which students get students learn morphological sciences, scientific basis of medicine, preclinical sciences, behavioral sciences with elements of professionalism, clinical sciences, clinical sciences with treatment and legal and organisation basis of medicine. In the final year, there is practical training in internal medicine, paediatrics, surgery, gynecology and obstretics, emergency medicine, psychiatry and family medicine.

Study programmes:

Following programs in English are offered to international students at Pomerian Medical University:
1. 6-years MD program in English
2. 5-years DMD program in English
3. 6-years Asklepios program in English designed for German citizens

Number of students accepted each year:

General medicine (English program) accepts 130 candidates every year.

Tuition fees:

Tuition fees must be paid in 2 installments.
General medicine tuition fee is 10200€ for first study year and 9900€ for next study years.

Entrance examination
Documents needed for an entrance examination:

Documents must be either in English or translated to Polish.

5. Eligibility declaration (proving that applicant is eligible to study at University)
6. Photocopy of Birth certificate
7. Health certificate original

10. Passport or ID copy
11. 3 recently taken passport photos
(Optional – work experience, recommendation letter in English or Polish)

Deadline for applying for any programme is July 31st of respective year.

Transfers of students

No, transfers to Pomoranian medical university are not possible.
