The University of Debrecen is the second largest university in Hungary and is situated in Central Europe. Its history tracks back to 1538 when the Reformed College of Debrecen was established. The programmes for international students have been established in 1987 and all of them are delivered in English.
Currently, there are about 30,000 students in total from which around 11% are international students. They come from all over the world, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and North America included. The teaching staff of more than 1,700 provides quality education in 15 faculties and 20 doctoral schools, offering the widest choice of majors in the country.

Degree from Medical and health center of University of Debrecen is internationally recognised in European Union. If you want to work in USA, you need to take USMLE examination. Debrecen Faculty of medicine organises preparatory course for USMLE (Kaplan USMLE Step 1 Preparatory course) with tuition fee of 4400USD and 7 weeks of live preparation for this course.

Accomodation for students:

There are 2 possibilities for foreign students, who will study at University of Debrecen – cheaper dormitories and little bit more expensive private flats.
Students might choose between Auguszta Hotel and Student hostel with one-, two- and three-rooms appartment or OEC West Hostel located in the area of the Clinics with 56 single rooms and 24 double rooms.

Study programmes
General medicine:

General medicine programme takes 6 years in total (10 semesters plus 2 semesters of internship). Programme is in English, but students need to obtain at least basic understanding of Hungarian language to be able to speak with Hungarian patients in hospitals during internship.
First two years focus on theoretical aspects of medicine (biophysics, medical chemistry, first aid an dreanimation, medical phychology, Hungarian language, Anatomy, Histology, Embriology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Neurobiology). In 3rd year, there are theoretical foundation of diseases, basics of internal medicine, as well as surgery taught. Forth and fifth years of general medicine programme are stressed on training in pharmacology and clinical subjects (e.g. Cardiology, Preventive medicine, Radiology, Surgery, Obstetrics and gynecology, Traumatology, Stomatology, Clinical genetics, neurology, Pediatrics and others). Finally, in 6th year of study, students take final examination in internal medicine, surgery, gynecology, neurology, phychiatry and pediatrics.
Students who pass all examinations and defend a thesis obtain internationally recognised degree M. D. (Medical Doctor)
Tuition fee for one year of study is 16 900USD, paid in one installment or in two installments (in that case total fee is 17900USD).

Fee for general medicine is 16 900USD.
Application fee for all programmes is 150 USD.
Entrance examination fee is 350 USD.

Admission criterias
Admission criterias:

Applicants must pass:
1. Written test from biology and chemistry/physics (multiple choice questions, definitions). If student chooses chemistry, there are only basic questions asked from physics and viceversa. Each test takes 30 minutes
2. Oral exam from Biology and Physics/Chemistry
Applicants must pass 40% from both written and oral part of examination. Otherwise, they can by only admitted to the Basic Medicine course.

Applicants may achieve up to one hundred points for each subject and up to one hundred additional points for their language knowledge at the oral examination. The maximum score of the oral examination is 300 points. Minimum scores required to be admitted to the first year of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy Programs or to the Basic Medicine Course are 260, 260, 230 and 150, respectively.
