University St. Kliment Ohridski in Sofia (General Medicine)


The University St. Kliment Ohridski in Sofia is the oldest university in Sofia, capital of Bulgaria. It was founded on 1st of October 1888. It has been named after the scholar and saint Clement of Ohrid. University consists of a total of 16 faculties with 105 special courses. The Faculty of Medicine was founded in 2013 – at that point it was the only one Medical University in Sofia. There was really high demand for studying of general medicine, which led to the establishment of an additional medical faculty in St. Kliment Ohriski. There are following faculties at the University: e.g. Faculty of Biology, Faculty of Chemistry, Faculty of Journalism or the Faculty of History. Students may spend their classes or reseach at Science and Technology Research Centres. The university owns library with rich multidisciplinary source of more than 2,510,000 entries, including certain rare and valuable publications.

Recognition in EU and rest of countries :

Diploma from St. Kliment Ohridski University in Sofia is fully recognised in European union and in most coutries of the world. Programme has GMC accreditation (no PLAB test is required) for medicine programme and GDC accreditation (no ORE test is required) for dentistry programme.


Medical University is situated in Sofia, capital of Bulgaria, which is political, economical and cultural center of country. There are 9 universities in Sofia. Accomodation for students:

University does not provide accommodation for internation students. On the other hand, living costs in Bulgaria are only moderate.

Study programmes
General medicine:

The program aims at offering theoretical knowledge and practical skills through highly qualified teaching combined with opportunity to exercise it in practice in the most modern preclinical and clinical medical complexes in Bulgaria. The training course in Medicine is conducted on the basis of a curriculum which is made according to the Unified state requirements for the master’s degree in the specialty ‘Doctor of Medicine’’ and the qualification of a General Practitioner. Program has 6 years (12 semesters) and starts in October. There is no spring intake.

Number of students accepted each year:

There are around 30 students accepted each year for program of General medicine.

Tuition fees:

Tuition fee for one study year of General medicine is 8000€.

Entrance examination

There is an entrace examination needed to be sit by student. Application fee is 30 BGN.

Application form that was filled and signed by applicant
Legalised copy of the applicants Diploma together with grades that need to be officially translated into Bulgarian by a certified agency
Document stating that applicant is eligible to study at University. Document needs to be validated and translated into Bulgarian by certified agency
Medical certificate that needs to be validated and officially translated to Bulgarian
Photocopy of applicants passport or ID
